I didn't see this coming....

NEWPORT - The Purple People Bridge Climb ceased operation today, largely because of disappointing turnouts of customers and lawsuits over rights to the project that cost operators "hundreds of thousands" of dollars in legal fees.

I think we can all agree that this stupid plan was going to tank. Many of us didn't think it would last this long.

But here's my question: Why pull the plug on it now? We are heading into Memorial Day weekend and presumably the start of the "busy" season. If things were going so bad, shouldn't they have quit in February when no one was climbing? Why keep things running during the lean months only to shut them down when the busier months have begun?

I think we all agreed from the outset that this would inevitable happen. Now someone else will come in and make a profit because they won't have the same startup costs.
